MIKLOS POGANY

Miklos Pogany has always been an artist and a teacher who believes that everything is art. For me, art is the fork, the cup, the room I live in, the colors of a gray, rainy day, the clothes I wear.

When you work on Islesford it settles into you, as you settle into it. The influence on your painting can be more or less direct, but it will be there -- in a shape, a color, or a mood. So this summer (2010) I have been painting small paintings, from 4"x4" to 16"x20", dealing with boathouses, fish shacks, houses/homes and sailing themes.

His use of color and form pull one in for a closer look at many dimensions. The movement carries an observer through the piece evoking emotion and personal associations similar to listening to a musical performance. A simple owl, a few seaside buildings, an iris, or a few shapes, become deeper, broader, and much more than they first appear.

Miklos has been summering on Islesford for 20 years. Looking forward to spending more time on the island, he recently completed building a home and is beginning work on a studio and a pizza oven. He is continually inspired by the community of Islesford and by its setting.
